Legendary Mardi Gras King Cakes

You can't throw a real Mardi Gras party without a proper king cake. Dating back to the 1950s, hiding a small toy baby inside the cake is a tradition unique to New Orleans just like the colors it's decorated with—green for faith, purple for justice and gold for power. Legend has it that whoever finds the baby hidden in their slice is crowned king for the day, and good fortune is bestowed upon them. The newly-crowned king then hosts the next Mardi Gras party to continue the tradition.
